I remember the open markets in Hong Kong where one could buy fresh food and produce at affordable prices from local merchants. I used to go to the market with my mom. I loved the smell of fresh pastries hot off the oven, the sight of fresh tofu, Chinese brocolli, the way my mom bargainned for a better price at each stall. Produce came wrapped in used newspaper and twine. No plastic bags except for foods like fish, meat or tofu. I go to the 99 Ranch Market here for fresh produce and they don't cost much either.
