Neighborhood Social Network

I just joined Open Mar Vista, a neighborhood social network and grassroots movement to keep Mar Vista residents informed and connected. I am the Founder of Holistic Health Club in Los Angeles. I wonder if there is a network for the Brentwood community?

Join the Green Committee at Mar Vista Farmers' Market, 10:30 am on Sunday, August 10, 2008: Making Your Home a Friend to Mother Nature Workshop

Your home represents an amazing opportunity to green your life because most everything we do affects the environment in one way or another. Learn how to make your home a model of sustainability, inside and out. Topics include green building and remodeling, energy conservation, water conservation in and outside the home and water pollution caused by household activity.

Fashion and Make-up Day

I enjoyed a day of fashion and make-up thanks to Free Spirited Women's Meetup and Step Up Women's Network. I checked out the up-coming designers and got some good leads for future Holistic Health events. I learned some industry make-up tips at the Step Up event and met Ariana, a health/ wellness coach. Networking can be lots of fun.

Love vs Fear

From Christine Comaford-Lynch author of Rules for Renegades

"People are either coming from love or coming from fear. If someone's coming from love, I know they'll want to help me and be supportive...I hold onto the belief that people are fundamentally good, it's easier to deal with them in a more compassionate, less reactive way...So this week, I want you to focus on connecting to your spiritual side. A fun and easy way to do this is by listening to your intuition...paying attention to that small, still voice within."

Yoga lets me connect to the love inside me and treat myself as well as others in a more compassionate, less reactive way. Yoga helps me to focus on connecting to my spiritual side and listen to that small, still voice within.

Women Should Work Out to Improve Mood

Source: United Press International

Middle-age women who exercise to lose weight spend less time exercising than women who exercise to reduce stress, a U.S. researcher said. (What this means is that healthcare providers should emphasize physical activity as a means of enhancing quality of life instead of of prescribing exercise to prevent disease).

Walking in Brentwood

Walking in LA with Google Maps, Walkscore
Google Maps gets walkable! (via grist)

All you have to do is click the “Walking” option in Google Maps to get directions. The function works for trips up to 6.2 miles long — so if you’re training for a 10k, you can easily map out a running route that takes real-time traffic and terrain into account now.
We’re still waiting on Google Transit for bus and subway directions — as well as a biking directions feature.

The more detailed look at the walkability of different LA neighborhoods is pretty interesting. Mid city tops the list with a score of 92.

Thanks, Siel (Green L.A. Girl for this)

I've mapped some of my Brentwood walks already.
